Classroom Application:
* Review definition. * Discuss how loyalty was recently demonstrated by classmates. * Discuss or write about what it means to be a friend. * Discuss or write about Historical Figures that were loyal or disloyal * Discuss different kinds of loyalty: teamwork, friendship, animals to humans * Read books that are good examples of loyalty (ie: Beauty and the Beast; Why the Chimes Rang, Raymond Alden; Ramona and Her Mother, Beverly Cleary; Best Friends for Francis, Lillian Hoban; The Puppy Who Wanted a Boy, Jane Thayer) * Pledge of Allegiance * Sing patriotic songs Workplace Application: * Place "Community of Character" posters in employee break rooms, near time clocks, HR department and other employee gathering areas or customer areas. * Emphasize character trait of the month by placing definitions on payroll checks, hold contests within your place of employment to encourage the trait of the month, discuss the program and/or trait at your staff meetings. * Lead by example. * Talk to employees about becoming a loyal employee and what it means to have an emotional attachment to your work. Home Application * Discuss loyalty with your family. Use the calendar provided for discussion ideas. * Lead by example. * Encourage your children when they are feeling down. * Give genuine praise for a job well done. * Discuss that loyalty is being faithful to a person, team, an idea or your country. * Discuss how loyalty builds trust.
