City attornies are appointed by the Mayor and are charged, by statute, with the responsibility of managing the legal affairs of the city. That includes advising department heads, drafting ordinances and other documents, performing title searches and prosecuting ordinance violations.

Bill Berkshire was appointed to the office of City Attorney by Mayor Walker on October 1, 2010. He also serves as a member of the Board of Public Works and Safety and as attorney to Peru Utilities. 

Bill was born in Peru, Indiana and continues to reside there.  He has been practicing law since 1995.
