Discuss how citizenship was recently demonstrated by classmates (picking up litter in the hall, saying the pledge, etc…).

Read books that are good examples of citizenship (ie: A Very Important Day, Maggie Herold; The Flag We Love, Pam M. Ryan; Nothing But the Truth, Avi; My Brother Steve, Clymer; Coming to America, Betsy Maestro)

Write letters to local community leaders with support and/or concerns.

Discuss the real meaning behind the National Holidays.

Discuss the history of voting and how fortunate we are.

Place "Community of Character" posters in employee break rooms, near time clocks, HR department and other employee gathering areas or customer areas.

Emphasize character trait of the month by placing definitions on payroll checks, hold contests within your place of employment to encourage the trait of the month, discuss the program and/or trait at your staff meetings.

Lead by example.

Encourage your employees to volunteer, vote, support a service project.

Hang the flag at your business.

Encourage positive thinking about the community.

Set up a recycling center.

Use the calendar provided for discussion with your family.

Discuss how you can take more responsibility as a family for the environment (recycle, conserving water/electricity, etc…).

Be a good neighbor.

Respect authority and the law.

Vote.
